Description: Students will complete learning outcomes for Camosun College’s Biology 126 Physiological Basis of Life. Biology 126 is for students interested in learning about the function of macromolecules, DNA and its role in protein synthesis and inheritance, cellular metabolism, and hormonal control of the nervous system at the college level. A Camosun College instructor will present lecture material during class time and deliver approximately 10 laboratory sessions at the Camosun College campus. Students will be responsible for getting themselves to Camosun College for the afternoon/evening lab each week. Lab attendance is mandatory for this class. Assessment of student work for the Biology 126 portion of the course will be done by the Camosun College instructor.
Anatomy and Physiology 12 will be taught in conjunction with Biology 126 by the teacher at Mt. Doug. This dual credit course will require a significant amount of time outside of class to complete all required material for the course.
Life Sciences 11 is pre-requisite for this course.
Bio 126 is a dual credit course. Students will receive 8 high school credits. The Biology 126 credits are transferable to UVic, UBC, SFU, VIU, UNBC and most other BC Colleges and Universities. Check the BC Transfer Guide website BC Transfer Guide.
Assessment: Lecture and lab assignments, summative quizzes/tests, midterm, lab and final exams
Final Examination: In School Lecture Exam; Lab Exam
Lab Manual and Textbook: Students will be required to purchase a copy of the lab manual (approximately $15) and the textbook (price determined by Camosun bookstore and varies for textbook used by instructor and hard copy vs digital version)
Camosun Tuition Fee: Requires a Camosun College Application fee approximately $47. Tuition is covered by SD 61. International students will also be required to pay this fee.
There is an application process. NOTE: Students who wish to register for a dual credit course will need to meet with a Careers advisor for the application package, and will need to meet with an Academic Counselor to ensure their career choice aligns with the dual credit courses’ transition pathway. Documentation will need to be provided in the application outlining that the Anatomy and Physiology is required for the career that student wishes to pursue.
