Past students continually say, “the best class in all of High School”. In Outdoor Pursuits (OP), we play, learn and appreciate the natural world. OP is designed to create fun experiences and lasting memories in the school, community, and outdoors. The goal is to provide you with invaluable skills that will benefit you for life after school. Throughout the semester, this 4-credit course will enable participants to enjoy a wide variety of opportunities like camping, hiking, canoeing, kayaking, climbing, orienteering, leisure recreational sports, surfing, snowshoeing, learning wilderness survival skills, playing student choice games, gym activities and more. New ideas are always welcomed just as they say in Field of Dreams, “if you build it, they will come”. The culminating multiple-night hiking trip will take place somewhere spectacular such as: Juan de Fuca Trail, West Coast Trail, Sayward Lakes Canoe Circuit, and Strathcona Park. OP is primarily a participation based course. No outdoor experience is necessary, just an open mind and a willingness to get involved. OP fits regularly into the daily timetable and missing other school courses is very minimal. Ample class time will be provided to make up for any missed instructional time of other courses. Participation in OP will likely create some of your most impactful high school experiences.
