Powertech 10

Credits: 4

Mount Doug is happy to offer a course in our multi-purpose classroom for all new students and returning grade 9’s. This course is made up of 3 components:

Metal
The first component will include various metal work projects. Students will learn various techniques and processes in the class and will have the chance to make projects that they will be able to take home. Learners will safely acquire skills which include brazing, welding, metal forming and cutting. Personal creative projects are always welcomed including art metal and jewelry.

Second year students will be challenged to create larger metal projects which could include tables, benches and bike racks.

Power Mechanics
New students will study theory of the combustion engine and will disassemble a single cylinder engine, rebuild and test.

Automotive
Students who have completed the small engine the year before, will advance to an automobile engine which they will disassemble. First year learners who finish the power mechanics tasks will then start an “Introduction to Automotive” unit.

Though this course is not a prerequisite for Automotive 11/12, it does create a solid foundation for that course, and is recommended.
